Politics - High School all over again...

There was a time I closely followed what politicians were doing in the hope that they could fix the problems that we all faced as a whole... then came 2007... it was the year after the congress was taken over by the democrats. The president of the time was in lame duck mode... and we were in several wars. People were tired of the constant cycle of not getting anything done and things getting worse... but no one feared... after all... Bush only had one year left... things would get back to normal soon anyway. Boy, were we ever more wrong. The last decade has proved that in a democratic republic such as ours... corruption and stalemates... things that make our type of government look bad to outsiders... that the more you try to fix something: the more you royally screw it up. President Obama's presidency hasn't been much better... politically... he promised... to help solar energy grow, health care bill, to end the Iraq war, to lower unemployment, and create jobs. He has created some jobs, set December 31, 2011 as the deadline to leave Iraq, made a health care bill (let's face it... it could be better but it can be improved), and is trying to lower unemployment... notice I said "try". Many people blame the president for the current situation... but you see... that is just it... it's everyone's fault... it could have been avoided too. In 2007, the economy was thriving... yes... thriving! The dollar and the Euro were still on the rise... the congress during the Bush years (2000-2008) had been cutting taxes and helping corporations get richer. This seemed to work for a while... until the last year of his presidency. It was 2008... campaign year for soon to-be president Obama, McCain, and Hillary Clinton, and the source for most of today's problems: unemployment, recession, etc.: The Great Recession. Stock slid on an enormous scale because of banks that gave bad loans... and because of the mortgage meltdown. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell below 10000... and everything turned for the worse. It was everyone's fault... it was congress' fault (Obama was a senator too... but not only his fault...), it was Bush's fault, and it was the people who let the banks give bad loans and get away with it... but this isn't all that happened. I am not here to give a history lesson... I am merely here to state that politics is just one big game to our leaders. For example, in 2008 Bush tried  to fix the economy by randomly throwing money in the air... otherwise known as the infamous stimulus... and most of the money went to big corporations and almost none got to main street... which was really hurting. Two years later... in 2010... Obama is trying to stimulate the economy... with yes a stimulus. What is absolutely hilarious is that today... in 2011... Obama has a Jobs Bill and maybe a new tax proposal... and the Republicans in the House of Representatives are trying to call it a stimulus. They also are attacking "entitlement programs"... which by the way are not entitlement programs at all. They are programs that we pay into our entire life so that one day we can retire with some money left over... money WE EARNED. However, at the same time... on the left we have an absolute problem with a scandal that... well... let's face it... may just ruin Obama... just one word: Solyndra. The Solydra Scandal will have a lasting repercussion on his campaign and his image forever. Republicans will more than likely use this as a way to get rid of the president in 2012. However, not both parties are innocent... Now there is a stalemate in congress... one that has lasted since the House was recaptured by the republicans last year. One side says... fix with taxes... the other says fix with cuts... then the democrats come up with using both. Then the Republicans say no... and what happens? politics as usual. I swear... the more I talk about politics... the more it reminds me of my days as a freshman in high school. All of the drama and the impossible people to deal with. It is like the feeling of someone arguing with you over how you talk... it is pointless and childish. It makes our country look bad... and I have had enough. The political machine is made by the same makers as the High School machine was: rumors, drama, and absolute stupidity all the way around... democrat AND republican. Our government is a corrupt and terrible thing... but it's laws are good... and that is what makes me laugh... if only I wasn't crying about it... the middle class is shrinking... and I am going to fight back... I don't know about you, but I am tired of corruption and politics as usual.... are you? Because I know that what is going on... is wrong... and politics as usual and a shrinking middle class is why I support the Occupy Wall Street movement.
